Stanley, Idaho experiences six earthquakes in less than a week

BOISE, Idaho (CBS2) — Six earthquakes have occurred in, or immediately around the Stanley, Idaho area since August 18th.

The largest in that timeframe registered as a 3.3 magnitude, centered 25 km (roughly 15.5 miles) west-northwest of Stanley on Sunday afternoon just before 2:00 p.m.

Earthquakes are not uncommon in the Stanley area, although the size of this earthquake and the frequency of so many in such a short time period is of note. The earthquakes in the area seem to average in the high 1's to mid 2's, and most of them likely go relatively unnoticed.

While a 3.3 magnitude earthquake is certainly strong enough to be felt, depending on your location relative to the epicenter, 15 miles northwest of Stanley is a sparsely populated area.
